Full setup

The quick start gets you reading in three steps. This walks through every setting so the follower tracks you as accurately as possible.

  1. Paste your script and read it once to catch typos — the follower matches what you say to the text.
  2. Choose your mode: voice-following or auto-scroll.
  3. In voice mode, press start and grant microphone permission. If you blocked it earlier, re-enable it in the browser's site settings.
  4. Select the language your script is written in so recognition matches it.
  5. On Chrome 139+, turn on on-device recognition to keep audio local; allow the one-time model download.
  6. Set the font size so you can read comfortably from your filming distance.
  7. Turn on mirroring if you're using a beam-splitter rig.
  8. Set a countdown so you have a moment to settle before the text moves.
  9. Press start and do a short test read to confirm it tracks your pace.

Tips for better following

  • Speak clearly at a natural volume — the follower keys off recognised words.
  • Pick the correct language; the wrong one hurts accuracy badly.
  • Keep background noise down for cleaner recognition.
  • Use Space to pause and the arrow keys to step manually if needed.

Frequently asked questions

The browser won't let me use the microphone — what do I do?
Open the browser's site settings for the page, set the microphone permission to Allow, then reload and press start.
Do I need to download anything for on-device voice?
The first time you use a language on-device, Chrome downloads a model once; after that it runs locally without a connection.
