Browser support
letter maps runs entirely in your browser, so what works depends on your browser. Here's the current picture.
| Auto-scroll | Voice-following | On-device voice | |

| Chrome 139+ | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Chrome / Edge (older) | Yes | Yes | No |
| Other Chromium browsers | Yes | Usually | Varies |

| Firefox | Yes | Limited | No |
What this means in practice
Auto-scroll works in every modern browser, including mobile. Voice-following relies on the browser's speech recognition, most reliable in Chrome and other Chromium browsers. On-device (offline) recognition is newest and currently needs Chrome 139 or later.
Frequently asked questions
- Does voice-following work in Safari or Firefox?
- Support is limited and less reliable than Chrome. For voice-following we recommend Chrome or another Chromium-based browser; otherwise use auto-scroll.
- What do I need for offline, on-device voice?
- Chrome 139 or newer, with on-device recognition enabled and the one-time language model downloaded.
- Does it work on mobile browsers?
- Yes — auto-scroll works on mobile, and voice-following works on mobile Chrome with microphone permission.
